Strength in Numbers

With our spring season nearly coming to the end, the girls have quickly come to terms with the phrase "strength in numbers."  The girls are learning to step into new roles and quickly learning that we are not the same team as we were in the fall.  We have had our ups and downs losing players to concussions for a couple of weeks, some sick with strep and the flu, and pulled muscles. At times we only had 12 girls playing.  But the girls are striving to be better each day in their meetings, at practice, and in games! They are growing closer to one another and using every opportunity to be better.

A Break in the Spring! (Better known as Spring Break)

Hawaii, Disneyland, San Diego,......even the Dominican Republic?!?!  Every year in the school year the girls get a chance to take a week off and relax. The term is often referred to as Spring Break. Have you ever heard of it?? Just kidding! Of course you have! Spring Break 2013.....Whoooooo!

Well, this Spring Break was filled with many different trips and different adventures! Let's hear some experiences from girls on the team!

Kassi Nudd: California (Disneyland)

Last week I had the chance to spend my spring break with 8 of some of my best friends and teammates! Our adventure started early on Saturday morning as Kendra, Lex, Taryn, Ash and I piled into one car and Ky, Shay, Mari and Shay's sister rode in the other! Expecting a nice drive, we were shocked when we nearly died in a snow storm for half the week. But we finally made it to California and were simply just excited to lay on the grass and enjoy the sun! Our week was jam-packed with tons of different adventures! It started off with riding tandem beach cruisers from beach to beach. Trust me, it is not as easy as we make it look in the picture! We crashed and made idiots of ourselves for most of the time! The rest of the week was followed by walking around China Town, street vendors and shopping. Shay, Mari, Ky, Lex, Taryn and I took at trip to explore the Happiest Place on Earth! That was an adventure in and of itself! All the rides, screaming, laughter! We finished off the second half of the week with going to foggy beaches and seeing the famous Hollywood! Saturday morning we said our goodbyes and headed back to good old Logan! So to sum up my first time to Cali... I cant wait to go back! I had so much fun and made so many memories with some of the best people!

 Brooke Larsen: Hawaii

I went to Hawaii for Spring Break with my roommates. One of my roommates moms lives in Kailua on Ohau, so we got to stay with her for free! Pretty much, we crammed as much as we could into that one week we were there. We did tons of awesome hikes and hit up all the different beaches and hitch-hiked everywhere...haha it's like a normal thing to do there. But besides the night we hiked stairway to heaven (a super sketch hike.... way scary) and didn't have lights and got lost in the forest for awhile, the trip went smoothly. At the beach the water was so warm. Me and one of my roommates were out for a morning run on the beach and decided to just jump in for a morning swim, then run back home! It seriously was the best. I'm also happy to have gotten my freckles back, they have been sorely missed :)

Ambryn McCallson: Dominican Republic

My favorite experience in the Dominican Republic is one of the days when I was at the orphanage a little girl named Damilka came up to me during lunch and slipped me a little note covered in hearts. Inside it read "Hambry (which is what they all called me) you shine like the star that I know you are." This is coming from a little child whose mother was a prostitute and left her to fend for herself at the age of 2. The Ark ( which is the orphanage) found her at age 3 huddled in a closet sick and near death. This little girl went out of her way to make me feel special when she is the one who should be getting notes. We grew very close and were best friends by the end of my trip. As I was leaving I was carrying her around on my back and she kept saying something in Spanish that I didn't understand over and over again. My friend who was fluent then told me that she just kept saying "You're my best friend please take me with you. Don't leave me" it was an amazing experience and one that ill never forget. I'm so blessed to have gotten this opportunity and am hoping to go back next year.

2012 Soccer, A Historic Season to Remember

This year's soccer squad was something special. After making history by advancing to its second-straight NCAA Tournament, the Utah State soccer team had its season come to an end against top-seed and No. 2 ranked BYU, 2-1, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Provo on Saturday.  Utah State ends the season with a13-3-6 record which is the fewest losses in school history. This is the first time this season that the Aggies have allowed more than one goal in a match.

"I couldn't be more proud of this team. We kept going after them and forced them to do things that they weren't comfortable doing, and that was our goal. We had our chances and were the better team at times. It is hard for the season to be over, but I am so proud. They played so incredibly well," USU head coach Heather Cairns said.  Utah State will be saying goodbye to a trio of seniors in defenders Natalie Norris and Kami Montgomery and senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford. The three ended their Utah State careers with a phenomenal 47-24-14 record during their four years.

We couldn't be more proud of the girls this season!!!
