Great Weekend in El Paso!

Congrats to Lauren Hansen for earning WAC Offensive Player of the Week and USU Athlete of the Week! Lauren scored three of the six goals Utah State scored over the weekend when the Aggies went undefeated in against Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin.

El Paso...We came, we saw, we conquered!

by Chandra Salmon

Well you see, we were all under the impression that we were going to Texas...but once we got off the plane and saw the GIANT Mexican flag flying high overhead we knew almost instantly that we were very mistaken! The El Paso trip was so much fun! We did our traditional "dessert challenge" on the first day and, of course, Josh's car rose to the occasion and took the cake...literally! yumm!

We spent Saturday at the El Paso zoo, enjoying the company of all the exotic desert animals! We saw sheep, turtles, elephants, weird looking monkeys, but the Sea Lions were definitely the biggest hit in this zoo, they had a neat underground aquarium that made it almost feel like we were actually IN the tank with them!!

And finally, the main reason we went to Texas in the first place...our games! The field location was so unique; it felt like we were atop some random mountain range in the middle of the Mexican desert! There were little road runners and lizards scampering all over the place! The soccer part of the trip was such a neat experience! It's awesome to come off a road trip with 2 more games in our favor! We all worked really hard, even when things weren't going our way, and we pulled off the best possible scenario! Can’t wait to go back to Texas in 2 weeks!

TEAM TRAVEL: THROUGH THE EYES OF LINDSEY SMART

I can't believe we leave for TEXAS...tomorrow! The first road trip of my last season. It seems like yesterday when during my Freshman year we were stuck in our hotel in Hawaii because of an earthquake! And not too long ago when we were in Texas playing in the unbelievably hot weather at TCU. How about driving for miles when we were all starving and Josh stopped at the gas station to get us those sick, cold, rolls with sausage in them. :) Road trips are one of the best parts of season. Of course I love playing at home with all the fans, but traveling with the team and going on all the fun adventures can't be beat.....and let me tell you there have been quite a lot of adventures! I am looking forward to spending time with the team and getting to know the Rookies better, squished van rides, and our famous dessert juggling competitions. Above all, I am excited to go show these Texas schools what Aggie soccer is about!!!

Good luck to Aggie Women's Soccer this weekend in El Paso as they take on Texas Tech on Friday and Stephen F. Austin on Sunday! GO AGGIES!

Preseason--It's All Part of the Package!

Two-a-days, fitness, weights, ice baths, team meals, individual meetings with coaches, “Christmas in August” (equipment distribution), lots of team time, and a whole lotta soccer….none of this is new to returning players on the women’s soccer team because it’s all part of the preseason package! The last two weeks, the Aggies have spent some quality time together both on and off the field. The girls checked in on August 4th and started two-a-days on August 5th. The girls have been challenged both mentally and physically and are ready to put themselves to the real test this Friday at home vs. Northern Arizona University! As a break from training sessions, the girls did some community service by spending an afternoon with kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Logan, and this past weekend, the team went up for a retreat at Bear Lake! The team went on a short hike, then stayed at the USU Training Center where the girls got to know each other better, set some team goals both for soccer and academics, and even had enough downtime to go play some soccer on the beach! It was a great break and a great way to start the week of our first game of the season! Good luck girls!
